1. BACKGROUND
The 5-Star Student Competition and Parenting Conference is indeed an idea whose time has come.
The 2026 edition marks the second edition of the competition. The inaugural edition was won by Diovinic Academy, Imo State.
Over the years, our educational system has largely trained students to pursue academic grades and examination success. While examinations such as school examinations, WAEC, GCE, JAMB, and NECO are important, academic performance alone does not necessarily develop the kind of well-rounded individuals and leaders capable of transforming families, communities, nations, and the world.
The 5-Star Student Competition and Parenting Conference was therefore designed to identify, develop, celebrate, and reward students who demonstrate excellence across five important areas of life—not academics alone.
The competition seeks to position participating schools and parents as contributors to the development of well-rounded future leaders, while positioning Smart Career Agency as a trusted career, mentorship, education, and personal-development partner for life.
EVERY CHILD IS A STAR — NO CHILD SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND!
At the 5-Star Student Competition and Parenting Conference, we believe that every child is a star in the making.
No child should be left behind simply because he or she learns at a different pace or currently performs at a different level from others.
We therefore encourage parents, caregivers, teachers, school administrators, and proprietors/proprietresses to register children across all learning levels—slow learners, average learners, and fast learners alike.
By the end of the competition, participants and their parents will better understand the practical meaning of the familiar progression:
Good → Better → Best
In our own unique way, we describe these stages as:
- Slow Learners — Good Learners
- Average Learners — Better Learners
- Fast Learners — Best Learners
However, our goal is not to permanently label children according to their present abilities.
Rather, our goal is to create an environment where every child can discover, develop, improve, gain confidence, and ultimately become the best version of themselves.
NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION
As the popular saying goes, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”
The 5-Star Competition is a purposeful initiative designed to stimulate the development, creativity, confidence, self-discovery, resilience, and continuous improvement of every participating child.
We believe that when children are given the right opportunities, challenges, encouragement, preparation, and support, they can develop the capacity to create, innovate, solve problems, and accomplish things that may amaze their parents, teachers, schools, and society.
One parent once shared a remarkable testimony with us. After his daughter participated in our national competition, known as the Reward for Excellence and Scholarship (RES) Competition, he discovered something extraordinary: the little girl, who was only about six or seven years old at the time, had begun writing her first novel.
Other parents have also shared remarkable testimonies. Even when their children did not win the competition, parents observed significant improvements in their children simply as a result of participating in the preparation and competition process.
These improvements included:
1. Improved reading culture
2. Better academic performance
3. Greater self-discovery and awareness
4. Increased confidence and communication skills
5. Greater ability to face challenges and compete positively
A COMPETITION DESIGNED TO TRANSFORM EVERY CHILD
The competitions we organise are intentionally designed to produce positive transformation.
From the selection of questions and preparation materials to the structure of the competition and the overall process, every aspect is developed with the growth and development of the child in mind.
Our desire is that every child who participates will experience a meaningful journey of transformation:
From Good to Better, and from Better to Best.
IMPARTIALITY, INTEGRITY AND FAIR JUDGEMENT
Over the years, we have painstakingly selected impartial, credible, and competent judges and examiners whose decisions are based on merit and are not influenced by sentiments, favouritism, bribery, corruption, or external interference.
Sadly, practices that compromise the integrity of competitions sometimes occur in our society.
On one occasion, I attended a competition where the organiser disclosed that a particular school had approached them and offered ₦800,000 to ensure that one of their students emerged as the winner, even though the first prize in the competition was only ₦150,000.
This has never been our practice, and it will never be part of our system.
In our scoring and judging processes, we have consistently upheld the principle:
“Who the cap fits, let him wear it.”
Our winners must earn their victories on merit.
OUR PLATFORM HAS HELPED DISCOVER AND NURTURE EXCEPTIONAL TALENTS
Some of our previous winners participated in our competition as their first major competition experience.
Our platform provided them with an opportunity to discover themselves, develop their confidence, gain exposure, and nurture their talents.
Many of these young people have subsequently gone on to participate in and win other national and international competitions.
1. MISS NETA NNABUENYI
Miss Neta Nnabuenyi emerged as the First Runner-Up in our 2016 RES Competition in the Junior Category.
She subsequently won First Prize at the 2018 Nigerian Spelling Bee.
She also won First Prize at the 2018 African Spelling Bee in Mombasa, Kenya.
She is currently a 400-level student at the University of Southern Mississippi in the United States, where she is studying on a 100% scholarship.
Her story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a child is given the opportunity to discover and develop her potential.
2. MISS CHINALURUMOGU EZE SUCCESS
Miss Chinalurumogu Eze Success won the Star Prize in our 2016 RES Competition in the Senior Category.
She was also one of the national winners of the Always Sanitary Pads National Essay Competition for Girls in 2016, where she won ₦100,000.
She subsequently won a poetry competition in Nigeria and became the only participant selected to represent Nigeria at the 2023 Roger Ratchuel School in Paris, France.
In April 2023, His Excellency Peter Obi congratulated her on his X social media platform. Her story subsequently attracted public attention and led to invitations for interviews on radio stations, blogs, and other media platforms.
She currently works with an international television station known as Afia TV and has travelled widely.
During an interview with her in 2017, she revealed that she had previously struggled with an inferiority complex. However, after participating in and winning our competition, she gained greater insight into herself, her abilities, and the possibilities ahead of her.
These stories demonstrate something very important:
> A child may never know what he or she is capable of until someone creates an opportunity for that child to discover it.
YOUR CHILD COULD BE OUR NEXT SUCCESS STORY!
Your child or student could be the next Neta Nnabuenyi.
Your child or student could be the next Chinalurumogu Eze Success.
Your child or student could discover a talent, develop a passion, gain confidence, improve academically, develop leadership capacity, or unlock a future they never knew was possible.
Your child could be our next success story!
NO CHILD SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND
We therefore call on all parents, caregivers, teachers, school directors, proprietors, proprietresses, and other stakeholders in education:
Do not leave any child or student behind.
Register them for the 5-Star Student Competition and Parenting Conference.
Whether a child is currently considered a slow learner, an average learner, or a fast learner, there is a place for that child.
Because we believe:
EVERY CHILD IS A STAR IN THE MAKING! ⭐
Give your child the opportunity to:
- Participate.
- Discover.
- Develop.
- Grow.
- Compete.
- Lead.
- Shine.

ABOUT THE 5-STAR COMPETITION AND PARENTING CONFERENCE
The 5-Star Student Competition consists of four competitive stages:
1. Screening Test
2. Spelling Bee
3. Essay Writing
4. Public Speaking
However, because the family is the basic unit of every society, we have also developed a compulsory capacity-building workshop for the parents and teachers of these young stars.
The workshop will focus on the following key topics:
1. Parenting and Academic Excellence/Self-Discovery
Helping parents understand how to support their children's academic development while also creating an environment for self-discovery and personal growth.
2. Parenting and Body Integrity (Sex Education)
Equipping parents with appropriate knowledge and practical approaches to educating and protecting children regarding their bodies, personal boundaries, dignity, and responsible behaviour.
3. Parenting and Emotional/Financial Intelligence
Helping parents understand the importance of emotional development and financial literacy in raising responsible and well-rounded children.
We believe that influencing children is development, but influencing their primary influencers—their parents and teachers—is sustainable development.
Indeed, charity begins at home.
RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE AND INTEGRITY
In addition to the competition, we will recognise selected individuals and organisations that have contributed significantly to the advancement of education in Imo State and demonstrated integrity in public service over the years.

SCORING AND DETERMINATION OF WINNERS
Each of the four stages carries 100 marks.
Therefore, every stage is extremely important.
The overall winners will be determined based on the highest cumulative scores obtained across all four stages.
For example, if Contestant A scores 70 marks while Contestant B scores 50 marks in the Screening Test, and both contestants subsequently obtain equal scores in all the remaining stages, Contestant A will have the higher overall cumulative score and will therefore rank ahead of Contestant B.
This system ensures that the final outcome is determined by overall performance and merit, rather than performance at only one stage of the competition.
OUR COMMITMENT TO FAIRNESS AND INTEGRITY
We have been known as a private organisation that organises two major competitions in Nigeria:
1. Reward for Excellence and Scholarship (RES) Competition
2. 5-Star Student Competition and Parenting Conference
Over the years, we have maintained a strong commitment to the principles of fairness, impartiality, transparency, merit, and integrity.
We carefully select judges and examiners to conduct our competitions and strive to ensure that the outcomes are free from internal or external interference.
Our philosophy remains simple:
> The person who earns the highest score deserves to win.
In other words:
“Who the cap fits, let him wear it.”
FINAL MESSAGE
We strongly believe that the 5-Star Student Competition and Parenting Conference can become a powerful platform for discovering, developing, celebrating, and rewarding the next generation of Nigerian and global leaders.
We are looking forward to a highly competitive, educational, transformational, and exciting 2026 edition.

> Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

10 BENEFITS OF SPELLING BEE TO THE STUDENTS
Since childhood, we have heard of the ‘Spell Bee Contest ‘in our schools and other online platforms. Every year they would hold a competition, and the qualifying students will get to compete outside the schools with other children at a national and even international level.
A Spelling Bee contest not only provides your child with a worthy educational experience but also instills a sense of healthy competition in them. The ability to memorize difficult English words does not just end by learning their spellings; participants also gain various skills by participating in these contests.
Below are a few benefits of participating in a Spelling Bee contest.
1. BRUSH UP GRAMMAR
On the contrary, to the common notion that Spelling Bee competitions are just about mastering the spelling of a few difficult words, it is a comprehensive learning process that helps the child in their overall development and their command over grammar. It is not just the spelling, but also the learning the definition, pronunciation, and origination of the words.
2.STRENGTHEN VOCABULARY
Participating in Spelling Bee competitions helps to enhance the vocabulary of a person. One of the results of a spell bee game is that the participants can gain competence in their reading and writing skills. Once your child becomes aware of the spelling bee words, it becomes easier for them to understand more terms and read and understand the material more clearly.
3. COMPETITIVE SPIRIT
The Spelling Bee competitions teach the children to compete in a healthy, competitive, and sporting environment. It is a stimulating experience that creates a sense of friendly rivalry, increased interaction and cultivating friendships with other participants.
4. BETTER KNOWLEDGE
Learning etymology and the origin of words can help broaden the knowledge base of an individual. It will not only help the children in school but is beneficial lifelong.
5. GREATER COGNITIVE SKILLS
Contesting in Spelling Bee Competitions can amplify the cognitive skills of an individual. The children learn to work under light pressure, which helps them think and process things faster. Participation in such competitions is beneficial for higher education since it enhances memory and learning skills.
6. INCREASED CONFIDENCE
Learning Spelling Bee words and participating in these contests can boost the confidence of a child. Learning new words and public speaking help to make the child more confident while standinup on stage or talking in public spaces in the longer run.
7. CHANGED PERSPECTIVE TOWARDS LIFE
Children who qualify at lower levels get to compete at national and international levels later. These contestants compete for monetary awards and prizes. These competitions get national coverage all over news and television. All of this helps the children to gain a better perspective towards life, and incorporate valuable life skills, and manage difficult situations with ease.
8. BOOSTS MEMORY
Spelling words in spell bee contests can be difficult for the participants. The preparation for these competitions can boost the memory of a child at a young age. Participation in these contests helps in the overall learning of the child.
Learning; all these Spelling Bee difficult words requires the child to focus, which will ultimately help the child to grasp things better and retain them for a more extended period.
9. REWARDS FOR WINNING THE COMPETITION
One of the best things about top-scoring Spelling Bee competitions is the rewards that it offers. Spelling bee winners usually get scholarships and other monetary prizes, gift cards, and access to free trial classes if they win the competition, even at a lower level.
These competitions are an excellent way to gain scholarships for higher educational purposes in other schools and colleges later.
10. LEARN SELF-DISCIPLINE
Participating in competitions such as Spelling Bee can help the children learn self-discipline. The routine, order, regulation, and control that one needs to prepare for these contests instill a sense of strictness and authority in them that is quite needful at a young age and follows them later into adult life.
